Her Struggle to Live has Now Come to an End ~ 3-27-07 --- 6:30PM: Melanie has lost her battle. She suffered a seizure early this evening and within 3 minutes began her journey to the Rainbow Bridge, to join her sister, Scarlett. Melanie will be privately cremated and her ashes returned to Scottie Kingdom Rescue, where they will join the others that have left before her. We would like to thank the many people who gave their support to Melanie and sent such encouraging messages to her. Your thoughtfulness was an inspiration to us all. 3-26-07 --- 8:00PM: Melanie has taken a decided turn for the worse today. We have been watching her carefully for any changes and late this afternoon she was taken to our Vet for further evaluation and medical attention. In lieu of leaving Melanie at the Vet's office overnight by herself, we chose to have her receive three different injections and fluids. She is now back in our care, at home, but obviously not feeling well. We are trying to feed her freshly cooked chicken breast and/or ground beef, however, she is refusing all food and water. We are hoping once the medications are thoroughly absorbed by her system, that she will begin eating and drinking, however, we know all too well that these are further signs of her liver failing. Someone will be with Melanie throughout the night.
Melanie has been diagnosed with Liver Failure. At five years of age, we believe she deserves a chance to live a full life. There is no doubt she has an up-hill struggle ahead, but we're more than willing to help her fight. But we also need your help, as we can't fund her care without you. Beautiful Melanie came to Scottie Kingdom Rescue as an owner surrender.
In her previous home, Melanie loved short visits outdoors and lots of
one on one time with her human mom and playtime with her sisters.
Melanie has hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormone) and will need
to take a supplement twice a day. Her latest blood work results show her
dosage is at the correct level. |
