Codey has lost his Battle Despite All of our Attempts to Save Him

Codey came to Scottie Kingdom Rescue late in the evening on February 4, 2005.  He had been living in a car with three other small terrier pups and three large breed dogs, after their human mom had lost her home.  It was a cold night and all of the dogs needed food and some type of medical attention.  Three other rescue groups saved the large breed dogs and we took in the four small terrier pups.  They were just 3 to 4 months old, rather thin and two of them were sick.  None of them had been given any vaccinations.

That Friday night, Codey and his three "sisters" settled in rather well and went to sleep.  Codey was the only one that didn't want to eat.  He was smaller than the others.

On Saturday morning, Codey ate some food, but began vomiting.  By late afternoon, he was having trouble breathing, vomiting very often and clearly was in distress.

He was taken to 24 Hour Emergency Animal Hospital and placed on Intravenous fluids & medications.  He was in Intensive Care for two nights.  The bill totaled $776.70.

Monday - February 7th:  Codey was taken to his Vet's office, where he was placed in isolation and continued on IV fluids & IV medications.  His outlook was grim.  His medications included IV Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  A complete blood count revealed very low white blood cell count.

Tuesday - February 8th:  Codey's temperature has now entered the normal range.  Parvo test = Negative.  IV Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  Plasma transfusion.

Wednesday - February 9th:  Additional bloodwork.  Check blood glucose.  IV Amikacin injection + Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.

Thursday - February 10th:  No appetite.  Bloody diarrhea.  Amikacin injection + IV Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  Baytril injection.  X-rays.

Friday - February 11th:  Good urine output.  Less vomiting.  Baytril injection + IV Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  Amikacin injection.  Poor appetite.  No water intake.

Saturday - February 12th:  Amikacin injection + IV Ampicillin - Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  More alert.  No vomiting or diarrhea in cage overnight.  Appetite better.

Sunday - February 13th:  Famotidine (Pepcid) - Metoclopramide (Reglan), Potassium Chloride & Metronidazole.  More alert.  No vomiting or diarrhea in cage overnight.    Eating better.

Monday - February 14th:  Codey goes home today.

As Time Allows, Codey's History Will Be Updated
