Recently, a fellow rescuer sent out a plea for assistance with several dogs that were to be euthanized at a shelter the following morning.  One little girl, "Candy", caught our eye, not only because of her soulful eyes, but also because she was thought to have a cancerous tumor on her side.  Several rescues pleaded to have someone save her, so she could live out her final days in a loving home environment.  We agreed to rescue this precious girl, and immediately rushed her to our vet for testing and treatment.

While her blood tests showed she was anemic (no doubt from the loss of blood through the tumor on her side that had burst open), all other blood results were normal.  She was also tested for Heartworm disease, Ehrlichea, Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis.  All were negative!

We decided to change Candy's name to something more appropriate, so in keeping with the beautiful color of her coat, we have named her Caramel, but are calling her Cara.

Cara was given a deep cleansing hydro bath at our vet's office, where her beautiful coat showed in all its' glory.  The simple act of giving Cara some love and attention during her bath, made her realize how lucky she was.  She now began to wag her tail, nudge up against you for petting and rubbing, and best of all, those eyes would stare deeply into your soul, so you knew Cara was thankful to be alive.

Our next step was to determine if the tumor on her side was indeed cancerous.  Surgery was scheduled and samples were taken to be sent to a pathologist.  After several days of nervously waiting for the results, just today, we were notified of the pathological results.  Cara DOES NOT HAVE CANCER!

The large growth on her side came from long term neglect of a skin problem.  No doubt from her being left outside for countless hours.  Her time on the street didn't help her either.  We're so happy to welcome Cara into our rescue, and to find out she has a full life ahead of her, is just icing on the cake!

Our vet has estimated Cara's age at a youthful 4 years.  She is one of the sweetest companions you will ever meet.  She has a gentle, yet playful demeanor that begs for lot's and lot's of loving!  If you don't give Cara the attention she desires, be prepared for some not so subtle nudges from this little lady!  But it's difficult to say no to those big brown eyes!

We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note:  Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis.  Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog.   We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs.

Thank you for your understanding, and for considering adoption!
